backlogs

there was a series of power interruptions during lunch time so when i and my gurl-friends at work had a lunch out we had to look for an open restau. too bad yellow cab didn't have a generator so they can't serve pizzas. just when we were all looking forward for friday pizza-out... and what's yellow cab without pizza? we ended up eating at max's and on a table with candles. isn't that romantic or spooky.

i wasnt able to attend our team meating because i was with the previous developer/owner of the system i am supporting. this was more important than the team meeting because when she's got free time that's very rare. i find her funny and likable but she can be annoying when she keeps promises and forgets them. and i saw her uber-technical side, she's a master of sql server i wish i were her apprentice. i also learned something as she was browsing kitchenomics.. raw macaroni shells are stir-fried with onions before putting in water.

one of the important things i have to learn is to prioritize things. i should not just accept and do tasks as they come. i should learn to focus on what is most important and then get back later for next tasks.

i finished a couple more defects so that in sunday my load will be lessened. then i rushed again to the zone and as usual i'm late again. unlike last sunday when i was short-breath, yesternight i was not tired at all. didn't even break a sweat.

we went to yellow cab at a gasoline station along coastal macapagal and stayed there until we were told by the guard that they're already closing. if we weren't told off we would have probably seen the sunrise.

vs

it was a busy week for me and the week's work didn't eat me at all i ate it all up. i feel so accomplished that we had a success in our final release for this project's milestone. and our qa's so kind it erases my mindset that devs and qa's are at a grudge against each other. truly, there are times a developer does not see what a qa sees and otherwise or there's always that line of misunderstanding one another. but this qa is different, she knows how to appreciate what you are doing and she is very understanding and gulp.. generous.

small things

i had a series of overtimes and an overnight in the past week-- and it will not make me any richer because i spent a lot for food, clothing, and a toothbrush. during my overnight, i've reached a point where my mind no longer wants to work that it just stares at the computer and then i'll just go crazy and hyperactive and started to sing along with seal/red hot chili peppers in my itunes. or jepay and i will just crack jokes at each other. it was like the repeat of thesis ii at cora's, lol. there's always that bright side to things that we should seek. we should not just get so engulfed with work but we have to learn that there are small things out there that makes the experience worthwhile.

the apprentice

there's a newly hired contractual in the office and i think she'll be placed in our team. there's no clear plan yet but she was initially introduced to us because she was hired to be a part of a project handled by our team. she became my seatmate because i offered her cora's computer while she was waiting for her's. then after everything else we just started talking to one another. although i was just listening most of the time i learned a lot from her. she has a lot of experience in the field which can very much say she deserves to be a project manager or business analyst rather than her current position which is developer. she had juggled with pm/ba/dev roles in her past work and she knows how to handle developers. how selfless of her to apply for developer position because she wants to get a clearer picture of a developer life once more so that when she steps into the pm path, she will be more effective. and i think as it is she is effective. she shared with me her experiences and lessons she learned for six years. i think i just found my mentor, though she is not aware of it. hehe
